Toen wij hier bijna 5 jaar geleden kwamen wonen vonden wij de keuken ” wel oke”. Een nieuwe keuken kopen was iets voor over 5 jaar ofzo. Onze keuken vond ik gezellig en in de loop van de jaren voegden we steeds meer eigen sfeer toe. De mensen die mijn blog volgen weten dat er in mijn keuken veel oranje retro spullen staan. Ik sloeg een beetje door tot verdriet van mijn echtgenoot, die ’s nachts badend in het zweet wakker werd en droomde over oranje retro Brabantia broodtrommels die hem achtervolgde.
Dat is natuurlijk een grapje maar ernstig was mijn verslaving wel….
Een paar maanden geleden besloten wij dat we in 2016 een hele nieuwe keuken zouden gaan plaatsen; een droomkeuken. We zouden er zelfs onze vakantieplannen voor in de nieuwe ijskast zetten. Maar waar we ook keken, we vonden eigenlijk niets echt mooi. En vooral ik zag erg op tegen zo’n enorme verbouwing. En trouwens, alle apparaten werkten nog prima (behalve de vaatwasmachine maar daar kom ik in een later blog op terug) dus zonde van ons geld om alles nieuw te kopen toch?
Na ávonden en ávonden brainstormen werden Mike en ik steeds enthousiaster van het plan om onze eigen bestaande keuken te pimpen.
De keukenkastjes waren voorzien van een vanille-gele fineerlaag (zie foto hieronder van een paar jaar geleden), die hier en daar wat losliet. We besloten dat we (Lees: Mike) de fineerlaag zouden verwijderen van alle kastjes zodat er MDF overbleef. Vervolgens hebben we een hele studie gemaakt van alle mogelijkheden om de kastjes weer van een nieuwe laag van het 1 of ander te voorzien. We besloten om de deurtjes te gaan schilderen met Kalkverf van Annie Sloan (gekocht bij Shabbytreats)
Het verwijderen van de fineerlaag bleek een lastige klus. Mike klaarde de klus met een bouwföhn en deed er een paar avonden over om de kastjes helemaal kaal te maken. Wat gaf dat al een ander gezicht zeg!
We lieten verschillende kleuren kalkverf van Annie Sloan opsturen om uit te proberen.
De keuken wilden we een industriële sfeer geven en we kozen uiteindelijk voor de kleur: French Linen.
Kalkverf is natuurlijk niet waterafstotend en dus niet zo geschikt voor een keuken. Daarom bestaat er een wax die je eroverheen wrijft en 5 dagen moet laten uitharden. Daarna kan je de kastjes gerust afnemen met een vochtige doek.
We kozen nieuwe stoere handgrepen waardoor de kasten een echt industriëel uiterlijk kregen.
Ineens vinden we ons zwarte aanrechtblad een stuk mooier dan voorheen!
